Wild Bird Feeders

Anytime is a good time to hang a wild bird feeder.

Spring, summer, autumn, winter - if you hang a wild bird feeder and fill it with their favorite bird food, you will always attract wild birds to your home for your enjoyment.

You can hang a wild bird feeder in a variety of places - from a tree, using a free-standing plant hanger/hook or from a hanger or a hook mounted from your porch ceiling or beam.

You can also mount a wild bird feeder to a wooden post or a metal pole, using a pole adapter.

If you decide to hang a bird feeder from a tree but don't wish to feed the squirrels, a bird feeder with a baffle added may be in order. There are also squirrel-proof bird feeders you can buy.

There are many wild bird feeder options to choose from, many made just for a particular bird that you want to attract.

Hummingbird feeders are special feeders that focus on feeding hummingbirds. Fill your hummingbird feeder with nectar and watch these little wonders go! You can buy commercially available hummingbird feeder food. However, it is very convenient to make your own hummingbird nectar. You can find the recipe here. Remember, do not use any food coloring!

Common in many backyards are finch feeders. A finch feeder can be a solid tube with individual seed ports allowing finches to perch onto and eat from. There are also mesh feeders. Mesh bird feeders may be in the form of a stocking or can be made of stronger material such as wire. Fill your bird feeder with black-oil sunflower seed or the smaller thistle (nyjer) seed that finches love.

Bluebirds love mealworms. They also love grapes. Bluebird bird feeders that cater to bluebirds have openings large enough for them to enter and exit. You can also use an open platform bird feeder but watch out for cats and other predators!
